RE-ENCHANTING REALITY

INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN THESIS

  • PROJECT TYPE: BA Thesis
  • YEAR: 2025

This thesis explores the intersection of Surrealism and narrative abstraction as a framework for interior design, proposing an alternative to maladaptive forms of escapism. In today’s uncertain world, Surrealism presents a compelling approach to confronting and reinterpreting reality. By analyzing Surrealism’s layered narrative approach, this research proposes a foundation for designing interiors that embrace diverse perspectives and encourage meaningful re-engagement with reality across various contexts.

Thesis A3 overview spread: photography, diagrams, and layout

A visual analysis of Carlo Mollino’s interiors forms the centerpiece of the thesis research. Mollino’s work is visually analyzed to identify how surrealist and narrative abstraction principles translate into design elements. Given the limited scholarly focus on Mollino, this study combines a review of literature with drawings and photographic sources to explore his contributions.
