An organic bench design for Uno Fika & Butik. Inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian design aesthetics, Swedish culture and neuro-design research, the design offers flexible 1- to 3-seater arrangements for both private and social café moments.

In addition to the 3-seater section inspired by Greta Grossman’s Curved Sofa (1941/1942), the design also incorporates one- and two-person seating sections:

  • Smaller curves for individual seating on outer edges to minimize discomfort of sitting amongst strangers.
  • Space for turning inwards between the curves accomodates more intimate two-person interactions.

The bench was constructed with untreated pine to allow for more subtle, natural colouration over time. Embracing the wabi-sabi sentiment and Scandinavian weather to provide an overall more organic look that compliments the organic form of the bench.
